Double the Bath Life with One-Plate®

It has been normal in the EN industry for decades to dispose of high phosphorous EN baths around 5 metal turnovers (MTO's).  This is for two main reasons.  First, the plating rate of the bath gets too slow as the bath gets older.  Second, the stress in the coating makes it less corrosion resistant even if the % phosphorous is still high.

With One-Plate®, now there is a breakthrough solution to take a high phosphorous bath and convert it into a medium phosphorous bath.  This can double the life of the bath and cut the waste in half.  Here’s how simple it is to do this:

  1. Make up a new bath with One-Plate® 2001 Q-2.0

  2. Operate the bath like normal and make high phosphorous EN up to as many MTO’s as desired

  3. Add One-Plate® 1001 S

  4. Replenish the bath with One-Plate® 1001 Q

  5. Now the bath will produce a beautiful medium phosphorous EN coating

  6. Operate the bath until the end of its useful life, and dispose of the bath as normal

It is possible to achieve 5 MTO’s of high phos EN and then another 5 MTO’s of medium phos EN!

The process also works to extend the life and value of an old One-Plate® 1001 medium phos bath where the plating rate has slowed down, and can then be converted into a high phos One-Plate® 2001 EN bath.  While a bath might be too slow for medium phos, that rate can be very good for high phos EN plating. Right after the transition from medium phos to high phos, the % phosphorous in the coating is > 10% and it passes the nitric acid test.

Other options for re-purposing One-Plate® electroless nickel baths include:

•High Phos EN → Mid Phos EN

•High Phos EN → Low Phos EN

•Mid Phos EN → High Phos EN

•EN → an EN-PTFE composite plating bath

•EN → an EN-Diamond composite plating bath

•EN → an EN-Boron Nitride composite plating bath

•Mid Phos EN → an Alkaline EN strike bath for the pretreatment of aluminum

•Alkaline EN Strike → Mid Phos EN

This new way of re-purposing an EN bath was tested with old fashioned three component systems, and it only works optimally with the One-Plate® single components that have been formulated to work effectively in this way.
